  1. Describe your praxis project. Where possible, include examples of what you intend to use in your course.

This might be lesson plans, videos, learning activities, assessments, syllabus elements, Course Outline of Record, curricular choices, pedagogical moves, learning activities for Zoom, Canvas or face-to-face, professional learning session design or another equity-based (re)design of pedagogy, curriculum, or department artifact.

Praxis project: Leveraging Career Pathway through Cross-Cultural Collaboration and Technology Innovation in Global Learning Communities

My praxis project aims to help my students develop intercultural competence and career readiness by engaging them in global learning communities and using technology tools. I use Adobe’s Creative Personality Test, a quiz that helps people discover their creative type based on their personality and creative style. After completing the quiz, students will be assigned one of eight creative types: Artist, Thinker, Adventurer, Maker, Producer, Dreamer, Innovator, or Visionary. The quiz is based on scientific and psychological research, and it can help students better understand their creative potential. I use Adobe Careers to help students explore various job opportunities that match their creative types. Students choose tools like Canva, Google Slides or Padlet to create digital portfolios that showcase their learning outcomes and achievements.

I created a Global Learning Communities Blog using Padlet, where students can interact with peers from different countries, cultures, and disciplines. They will share their insights and reflections on language and culture, as well as their creative projects and portfolios. They will also provide feedback and support to each other. I use this blog as a learning activity for my online Chinese courses, as well as a way to network with other instructors and students who are interested in global learning. Through this praxis project, I hope to foster a sense of belonging, curiosity, and collaboration among my students, and prepare them for the future of work and life in a diverse and interconnected world.

It is integrated into several Creative Cloud apps, including Generative Fill and Generative Expand in Photoshop, as well as Generative Recolor in Illustrator.

          • Adobe Firefly – Generative AI for everyone

          • Adobe Firefly uses generative AI and simple text prompts to create high-quality output such as images, text effects, and fresh color palettes. It can generate images from a detailed text description, apply styles or textures to words and phrases, generate color variations of your vector artwork, and more.

I am a "Thinker" according to Adobe Create App.  “Great ideas are meant to be brought to life”  is a good suggestion.  I hope to find friends who are  “Adventurer" type.

Have you heard of Adobe Analytics? Here is the latest news. Are you one of those shoppers?

(Reuters) -Deep discounts on everything from beauty products and toys to electronics have enticed U.S. shoppers to splurge on Christmas purchases and ring in a record $12.4 billion in Cyber Monday sales online, data from Adobe Analytics showed on Tuesday.

  1. Discuss your project’s intention to what you learned through the Equity Pedagogy CoP.

Where possible, make connections to specific concepts of how people learn, backward design, universal design for learning, intentional learning community, metacognition, culturally affirming identities, student voice, equitable grading practices, antiracist practices and/or other equity pedaogy principles.

My project is inspired by what I learned through the Equity Pedagogy CoP, especially the concepts of intentional learning community, culturally affirming identities, and student voice. I designed a global learning community blog to create a space where my students can connect, collaborate, and learn from each other in online settings. I also aimed to honor and value the diversity of my students' identities, cultures, and languages, and to support them to express themselves authentically and respectfully. In addition, I empowered my students to take charge of their learning, by providing them with choices, autonomy, and feedback on their blog posts and comments.

  1. Please reflect and make a direct connection on how your above praxis project reflects Mission College’s Equity Framework. (i.e. community engagement, social justice, transparency, cultural humility and a core of self-love, compassion and empathy)

My project also aligns with Mission College's Equity Framework, particularly the goals of promoting inclusive excellence and cultivating global citizenship. Through the global learning community blog, my students can enhance their intercultural competence, communication skills, and innovative creativity, which are vital for any professional field in a globalized world. They can also engage with diverse perspectives, exchange ideas, and create solutions that benefit different cultures and contexts. Moreover, they can confront stereotypes, biases, and oppression that may exist in language and education.

  1. Why did you make the changes you did? In what ways do you hope these changes benefit student equity, learning and success?

I revised my praxis project to make it more consistent with the concepts of global learning and intercultural competence. I think that these are essential skills for students to acquire in the 21st century, as they live in a world that is more and more connected and diverse. By using educational technology tools, interdisciplinary methods, and language and culture studies, I aim to design a more stimulating, relevant, and significant learning experience for my students. I also aim to encourage a sense of curiosity, empathy, and respect for other cultures and viewpoints among my students. My ultimate goal is to support student equity, learning, and success by offering them opportunities and resources that can improve their academic and career goals.

  1. Have you already implemented your praxis project and can you report any student feedback or observations of how it worked in your course? If you haven't, when do you plan to start implementing your praxis project? How will you reflect on impact? How can you continue you praxis cycle?

I have implemented my praxis project and I collected student feedback through surveys, interviews, and reflections. I will also observe how students interact with the technology tools, the interdisciplinary content, and each other. I analyze the data to evaluate the effectiveness of my praxis project and identify areas for improvement. I will use the results to inform my future practice and continue the praxis cycle. I will also share my findings and experiences with other educators who are interested in global learning and intercultural competence.

Here is an example of a student who participated in my previous global learning community gathering. He was one of my Chinese language students before, and I invited him to join our global learning community gathering where we discussed various topics related to global issues and cultures. He wrote me a letter to express his appreciation and learning outcomes. He showed how he was able to apply his Chinese language skills to communicate with other participants from different countries. He also demonstrated his interest in technology and entertainment, which are his career goals. He is an example of a student who benefited from the connection between foreign language learning and technology.

Hi Ms. Mao,

Thank you for sharing the information and invitation. This is to confirm I would like to attend the event on 12/9. Hope to see you then.

Thank you also for your help regarding the housing for my Sony Pictures Entertainment summer internship this past summer. Just want to let you know I was able to find housing. I had a wonderful summer internship and learned a lot. I learned more about technology: email marketing (Salesforce Marketing Cloud), website operations (Content Management System), analytics, etc. I plan to work in a technology job within the entertainment industry in the future, which can be a good way to continue being involved in my musical interests. I joined an employee band group, and we had a performance at a company event.

Happy to share with you more about my summer in LA (photos, performance videos, etc.).

Also, I would like to share with you that I was able to put my Chinese skills to use. This summer, I interacted with a Sony Pictures Entertainment employee in Chinese. I believe the employee may have lived in the Bay Area before (UC Berkeley alumni). Also, as a Research Assistant for my business professor, I helped the research team members with the Chinese translation. The research project involves working with a Chinese tech company (Foxit), and we were checking the Chinese translation for the research surveys to be sent out. Thank you for teaching me Chinese and preparing me for future success.

Have a wonderful rest of your holiday weekend, and hope to see you again in person soon.

Conclusion

Through my second Participant Praxis Project in the community, I want to learn more about the students and the community I work with. I want to understand their backgrounds, experiences, majors, and career goals better. This will help me build stronger relationships with them. I also want to try new ways of teaching and learning with educational technology tools. I want to use different subjects like technology, science, or math with language and culture studies to make learning more fun and meaningful for the students. My aim is to improve my skills in equity and inclusion and make a positive difference in the community. I want to make sure that all students in my classes have fair access to the opportunities and resources they need for their academic and career success. One way to grow our career in a globalized world is to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds and use technology to create new things. By joining global learning communities, students can learn from different viewpoints, share ideas, and make solutions that help different people and places. This can help students develop their cultural awareness, communication skills, and creativity, which are important for any career.
