ABMT's First Meeting
It was such a joy getting to meet with other neurodivergent artists and discuss different potential events and ideas together.
What especially touched me was everyone's willingness to listen and talk to one another. With tons of notions and stereotypes out there regarding autistic people and their ability to create and form meaningful relationships, this truly brought me joy and reminded me that anybody can form a connection.
Our next meeting is September 28th at 3 pm. I hope you'll join us!
The Suppliant Women
I'm having a blast making my Apollinaire Theatre debut in Aeschylus' The Suppliant Women. I truly hope you all can make it, this story is pertinent to our times and I've made some significant friendships and connections during this process!
All Brains Make Theatre
Hey all!
This will be one of many chats you'll see here, but I wanted to tell you all a bit about my own story.
My name's Chinedu!
- I'm a first-generation Nigerian-American
- I'm a runner
- I'm a beatboxer
- I'm a gamer
- I love working with kids
- I'm a musical theatre performer
and...
I'm Autistic and have ADHD, also known as being an AuDHD-er.
Growing up I was always told that I was smart and special. I've always had a very good memory and liked interacting with people and did pretty well in school.
And then came fourth grade...
I had a teacher who all of a sudden began to appreciate those differences less and less, I had bullies who picked on both me and my friends because of my stims and "friends" who wanted to change me.
This was also when I started theatre!
I enjoy the communities I make in Theatre both on and off stage, and as I got older and people became meaner, I would need it.
I continued to perform in plays and musicals throughout High School, but it was in college where my identity intersected.
I got involved with organizations that advocated for autistic people's experiences and needs and began to prioritize how my neurodivergence/AuDHD affected me as an adult.
Because it's different than when you're a child.
That's why I created "All Brains Make Theatre", to form a community, share experiences, and let each other know that we're not alone in this industry and that we have a voice!
Thanks for listening to my story, and I can't wait to hear yours!
Love,
Chinedu
