China's Map

Draw a "correct" China map

If you want to use a China map in your paper, it is better to use a "correct" one to avoid any unnecessary trouble.

What you would like to use is a horizontal one with a zoom-in map to show islands in the south sea rather than a vertical one which is not very space-efficiency.

A horizontal map

A vertical map

Interestingly, to draw the zoom-in map, you are not using any option in the spmap or grmap package. Instead, you need a sph file which draws that area directly. In other words, that zoom-in map is not generated from the main map but it is part of the main map : )

This blog collects several papers that have data and codes in the supplementary data for the horizontal map: https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/591146315
