HOTEL IBIS VALPARAÍSO

The hotel is located at Av Errazuriz 811 , Valparaíso, Chile. GPS :-33.039295, -71.626641. It has been arranged for you to arrive on November 25th, or 26th, depending on what you declared in the registration process (see below). Note that check in starts at 15:00 and check out is latest at midday. After the first two days of the School, everyone should check out on November 28th and leave the hotel early in the morning to start with the trip to the ALMA Observatory. After the trip to ALMA, you all will arrive to the hotel on November 30th afternoon, and start the School activities the next day early in the morning (see Program). Again, after two days of School, you should leave the hotel and check out on December 3rd.

Your stay at IBIS includes breakfast buffet each morning. Please note that if you incur in any additional expenses, you will be responsible for paying them.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

The registration will be held outside the Sala Juan Mouat at the Universidad de Valparaíso. You will be requested to sign some documentation needed by the ALMA-ANID fund, including also the requested waiver mentioned in the application process. This registration process in mandatory for all participants. In case you need any guidance with the paperwork, please get in contact with the project secretary Lorena Ruiz <lorena.ruizir@uv.cl>.

ALMA OBSERVATORY TRIP

There is a rented bus to take us from Plaza Sotomayor (next to Hotel IBIS Valparaíso) to the Santiago de Chile Airport (SCL). Everyone should be at the Plaza Sotomayor (see specific location here) 20min before departure. The bus will departure with no delay at TBD on November 28th. We will fly to Calama on LATAM Airlines flight LA144 (09:06 - 11:16). At our arrival to Calama, everyone will have transportation coordinated to San Pedro de Atacama.

Please note that if you incur in any additional expenses at these hotels, you will be responsible for paying them.

On November 29th, you should be at TBC at the intersection between Pasaje los Olivos and calle Geiser at San Pedro de Atacama (the specific location is here). Please consider being there 20min before departure. From there, the ALMA Observatory will facilitate a bus to take us to the OSF at 3000m.

You should read carefully the instructions provided by the ALMA Observatory before your visit. Important recommendations are highlighted in these following documents (in Spanish / in English). Also, please remind to avoid eating food that may raise your blood pressure at breakfast that day, such as caffeine, high sodium foods, energy drinks, coca leaves, etc., as everyone must undergo a health check at the polyclinic, which focuses primarily on this aspect.

At the OSF, we will visit the ALMA base camp and the laboratories, see the antennas under maintenance and their transports (if available). To go up to the ALMA site at 5000m, the AOS, you will be requested to take a medical examination (focused on blood pressure and oxygen level). You will need to sign the following waiver (in Spanish / in English) as well. You will be unable to go up in case you do not pass the examination. The ALMA Observatory will provide lunch for all of us at their OSF's canteen. Approximately at TBD, we will be returned by bus to the same place in San Pedro de Atacama.

14:30 Visit to the OSF/Labs

16:30 - 16:40 Return from the OSF to San Pedro de Atacama

17:30 Arrival to San Pedro de Atacama (the same place of departure)

After the ALMA visit finishes, we will have a free afternoon in San Pedro de Atacama. We will fly to Santiago on LATAM Airlines flight LA389 (10:17 - 12:21). At our arrival, we have coordinated bus which will return us directly to Plaza Sotomayor in Valparaíso. The bus will be located at TBD

DINNER

On the afternoon of December 2nd, at 19:00, we will have a dinner at Restaurant TBD. The menu will consist of a starter, main course and dessert (you should have filled the following form TBD). To arrive there ... it is recommended you take an Uber or Taxi to reach the Restaurant.
