Rationale

This school is designed to train students and early-career researchers in the main aspects of ALMA. It consists of a week of lectures and hands-on sessions on synthesis imaging, fundamentals of mm/submm interferometry, ALMA data reduction, and CARTA analyses, including scientific presentations from experts showing state-of-the art ALMA research. As part of the school, it includes a coordinated visit to the ALMA Observatory at 5000m (AOS) and the Operations Support Facility (OSF) near San Pedro de Atacama. This year the School will have a multi-wavelength perspective by including a special session on optical interferometry.

Costs

There is no registration fee. Coffee breaks, lunches, accommodation in Valparaíso and transportation to San Pedro de Atacama will be fully covered for students. The School will not cover transportation to arrive to Valparaíso, however a differentiated per-diem will be offered depending on the Region of origin. Partial coverage will be considered for postdocs or other early-career researchers, depending on internal evaluation by the Local Organizing Committee.

Eligibility

   ⊛  You must be affiliated with a Chilean institution.

   ⊛  You must work in an astronomy-related field.

   ⊛  You must be in the final year of a Bachelor's program or beyond.

   ⊛  The School will accept up to 25 applicants.
