Hi! My name is Adrienne Seegers and I am delighted that you're here. I want to offer a warm welcome to our fully online Child 42 Infant Toddler Care and Education course for fall semester 2024! I love teaching, especially when I get to teach about babies. They are so amazing! This website will provide all the information you need to get started with our course. Class begins on Canvas August 26th, 2024. If you're new to Canvas, visit the Columbia College Online Learning webpage. I'll see you online! -Adrienne
This syllabus is designed to be mobile phone friendly. Bookmark it on your phone or device so you can check it easily.
This is a fully online 8 week course.
This course begins on Monday August 26th, 2024 and ends on October 18th, 2024.
You'll need to participate by Wednesday August 28th, 2024 to indicate that you'd like to be in the class.
We have no regularly scheduled meetings in person or on Zoom, All of your work will be completed on your own time in Canvas.
There are two textbooks for this course (one traditional and one free online resource). More info can be found on the Goals & Textbooks page.
This is not a self-paced course. We will work through the weekly course materials together week by week.
The course is organized into 8 weekly modules that contain all the information you need to complete the work each week. All the modules are open for you to preview what is ahead.
Approach this with a growth mindset. If you put in the work, you are capable of earning the grade you want in this class no matter what your previous experiences in school have been.
Set aside time to work on this course weekly. You'll need at least two blocks of time to fully participate in the weekly discussions (one block of time on Mon, Tues, or Weds and another block of time on Fri, Sat, or Sun).
Download the Canvas app so you can check in on this course frequently.
If you don't have a computer (or one that's not reliable) or good internet access borrow a laptop and a hotspot from the College Library (website) and get them set up now. A hotspot is a gizmo that provides internet to your whole household even if the power is out.
You are the reason I got out of bed today. I am committed to helping you reach your goals. Stay in touch with me if you're experiencing barriers and/or challenges and I will do all that I can to work with you to ensure your success. There are lots of supports and resources available for you on campus, I'd love to help you connect with them. I believe in you and I'm honored to get to be on your team this semester!
