As this event emphasizes the intrigues of the Medieval & Renaissance periods, we are offering up two different competitions, open to anyone, but our hope is that the unusual theme will inspire people who don’t usually participate to join in.
Poison and Antidote, in any medium/time period: Henry I’s physicians warned him against eating lampreys as they imbalanced his humors. According to his chronicler, Henry would often eat the dish, even though the richness of it caused him stomach and bowel issues for days afterwards. It seems his lust for the dish eventually proved to be deadly. Using this incident as the perfect cover for assassin, we are encouraging all entrants to come up with what they would have used to dispose of a rather unfavorable person. Entrants must also provide an antidote, just in case the poison is consumed by the wrong person.
Espionage, Intelligence, and Assassins in any medium/time period: From the War of the Roses, the Renaissance, to Tudor England, espionage, intelligence, and assassins played a vital role in royal politics. Subtlety and secrecy were key and we want to see what our fighters, scribes, cooks, and populace can come up with if they were asked to serve in the service of Their Royal Majesties more secretive affairs. What moves would an assassin use in a crowd and still go undetected? How did spies hide in plain sight? How were secrets passed even when they were intercepted?
