Tournament Format

Traditional XVs rules modified for 20 minute halves and rolling substitutions.

Provided the tournament remains at six teams, the format will be as follows:

  • Each team will play 2 Pool Day matches and 2 Finals Day matches

The six teams will be drawn at random into two pools of three. Each pool will be “round robin” style with each country playing the other teams in their pool once. Four points are awarded for a win and two for a draw. A single bonus point is awarded for either scoring four or more tries or losing by seven or fewer points in a match.

At the conclusion of pool play teams will be ranked 1-3 based on the number of points accumulated. The 1st place teams from each pool will play semifinals #1 and 2, respectively, against the 2nd place team from the opposite pool. The 3rd place teams will then face each other in a two-legged best aggregate score Shield Final vying for 5th place while the loser claims the dreaded Wooden Spoon. The winners of semifinals #1 and 2 will contest the Cup Final to be the tournament champion, and the losers of those semifinals will contest the Plate Final for 3rd place overall.
