VALERIA BORDONE  

Principal Investigator

Valeria leads the CHIAS project. She is Assistant Professor in Ageing, generations, life course at the Department of Sociology of the University of Vienna. Before joining the University of Vienna, she was lecturer in Sociology at the LMU. She has also held a position as lecturer in Gerontology at the University of Southampton and postdoctoral appointments at the Dondena Centre at Bocconi University in Italy and at the Wittgenstein Centre in Austria, where she is guest researcher. Valeria has received her PhD from the University of Mannheim. Her research is mainly on intergenerational relationships, ageing, cognitive functioning.

DANIELA WEBER

Co-Principal Investigator

Daniela leads the CHIAS project at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). She is a Research Scholar at the Population and Just Societies Program of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and Assistant Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) within the Health Economics and Policy Division. Her research expertise is at the intersection of demography, social gerontology and health economics. She published mainly on healthy aging, health capital, and gender disparities in cognitive functioning.


THOMAS ARNHOLD

Prae-Doc Researcher

Thomas is a researcher in the SHAW Research Group at IIASA. He holds a Master's degree in Economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna). Previously, Thomas worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Advanced Studies (IHS) and WU. His research concerns the role of social determinants of health for inequalities in healthy aging. 


MARIA KARLENE SHAWN CABARABAN

Prae-Doc Researcher

Maria Karlene is a researcher within the CHIAS project. She obtained her MA in Demography from the Population Institute, University of the Philippines Diliman, where she also worked as a Research Assistant for the Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health in the Philippines. Her research interests lie at the intersection of aging, social relationships, health, and well-being.

MARION FUSSENEGGER

Student Assistant

Marion is project assistant within CHIAS.  She holds a BA degree in Mass Media and Communication Studies and is about to complete her BA degree in Sociology at the University of Vienna. She is interested in the study of ageing and in particular in intergenerational relationships.

TOBIAS WIß

Tobias Wiß is Associate Professor in Political Science and leader of the Junior Research Group "Socioeconomic Developments and Social Policy Reforms" at the Institute of Politics and Social Policy of the Johannes Kepler University Linz . His research includes comparative welfare state analysis, comparative political economy, pension and family policy. 

AGNETA HERLITZ

Agneta Herlitz is a Professor at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet. Her main research focuses on individual differences in cognitive functioning with a specific focus on aging and gender. She was the first to report and systematically investigate the pattern and magnitude of sex differences in episodic memory.

KRISTINA HAUER
