Substrate properties such as topography and compliance can influence cell behavior. Specifically, we are interested in understanding how biomimicking nanofiber structures can alter cell fate commitment; gene transfection and gene silencing.
In order to better understand and modulate cellular behavior, we design bio-functional scaffolds to deliver synergistic micro/nano-topographical features and sustained drug delivery to cells. We are currently interested in delivering small non-coding RNAs for long-term gene silencing applications. We are also interested in additive manufacturing of scaffolds for human stem cell transplantation.
Traumatic nerve injuries in the peripheral and central nervous systems lead to devastating outcomes of functional impairment. Mediating host-implant integration and implant/tissue fibrosis are also critical concerns in regenerative medicine. We focus on translational studies to explore potential solutions for these healthcare problems. Our solutions include drug/gene delivery, as well as cell transplantation.
