Mural Completed on Main Street
Our first Mural Project is done. Artist C.J. Conner has given our community a beautiful work of art, a focus for civic pride and engagement.
This work of art belongs to the entire community. Funding that supported it came from numerous sources, including cash deposited in donation jars, mailed checks, street donations from mural onlookers, and generous donations from the Chetek Lions Club and the Chetek "US" Out Retailers and Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, non-monetary support has come from countless businesses and individuals whose assistance helped make this project happen. The CPAL is very grateful to everyone who helped us reach this year's fund-raising goal and contributed to the success of this project. This strong community support makes us optimistic for future CPAL public art projects.
About the Artist
C. J. Conner has done murals for Mt. Olympus theme park in the Wisconsin Dells and at the original Famous Dave's restaurant in Hayward, WI. Her realistic renderings of wolves were chosen for National Wolf Awareness posters three times in the late 1990s and early 2000's, and three of her dog portraits are featured on the Vietnam Dog Handlers Monument on Staten Island. Although she is probably best known for her depictions of animals, her style and subjects vary widely. A visit to her Chetek gallery, a space she shares with photographer and framer Bruce Marsh, offers a visual feast to all who enter. If you can manage a visit, just be careful to not let the cat out.
What’s next for the CPAL?
A search is underway in Chetek for a location for our next mural. Any property owner who is interested in a mural installation on their building is encouraged to apply with us.
