Recently, residents at Chestnut Lodge had the exciting opportunity to watch caterpillars grow and transform into butterflies within the home.
The project quickly became a favourite topic of conversation among residents and staff, with everyone enjoying checking in each day to see how the caterpillars were developing. Watching the different stages of the life cycle — from caterpillar to chrysalis and finally butterfly — was both fascinating and educational.
Activities like these provide more than just entertainment. Nature-based experiences can encourage curiosity, spark conversation, promote relaxation, and create meaningful shared moments for residents. Many residents enjoyed reminiscing about gardens, wildlife, and time spent outdoors over the years while following the butterflies’ progress.
The excitement grew each day as the butterflies emerged, and residents loved being part of the journey from start to finish. It was a lovely way to bring a little bit of nature into the home and create a calm, engaging activity for everyone to enjoy together.
At Chestnut Lodge, we always aim to provide activities that support wellbeing, encourage engagement, and bring joy to everyday life within the home.
