Welcome to the Chess Tournament Guide!!! You will be learning about different tips and tricks to always have and edge in your chess tournament games, and you will also learn how to stop mental framing and stop being nervous when you first start your game.
1. Prepare Before Your Tournament
You always want to prepare before your tournament because you don’t want to come not knowing what your plan will be and so you can execute the things you practiced. Here are two things you should before you go to your chess tournament.
Use openings that you have a good win rate with and openings that you understand and have memorized.
Practice different chess puzzles because making sure you benefit on opponents blunders will make the difference in your games.
After every round, you should analyze your game because this could help you from making the same mistakes in future rounds. When you analyze your games you go move by move making an explanation on why you chose that move and then see if it benefited or worsened your position.
3. NEVER RESIGN!!!
Yes, I know you thinking that if I lost my queen and I'm in a bad position why would you not resign? Just trust me on this one because in tournaments I have been in so many games where I blundered a piece kept playing to the end and won on time or dealt with the setback and just kept playing how I normally would.
If you blunder a piece in the middle of the game just always go back to these steps.
1) Do I have any Checks or Attacks
2) If so, does it make sense in the current moment
3) if yes, what can my opponent do about it
4) If no, make the move, and this will %90 benefit your current position.
Just by answering these questions, you will find that you will make fewer and fewer blunders as you go on in your chess career and you will also find that you will start to understand your position better and analyze what the best move is. Yes, you will not be a stockfish, but you will be a position analyzer machine.
4. How To Stop Mental Framing
The key to stopping Mental Framing is to just calm down in the moment before you play. Take a couple of deep breaths, chug some water, pop a piece of mint gum in your mouth, and just make a mental picture of yourself winning the tournament with a smile on your face. Just by doing this you will relieve this nervousness that you have and you will have the courage to play.
