The Board

Each square on the board has a letter number address.  notice the arrows pointing to a rook in square  A,1 and to a pawn in square H,7.  Beginners do not need to memorize these but when you start playing in tournaments you will need to sometimes write down what square you moved a piece unto and if you captured a piece.  Click here to see examples of notation.
