For each museum, the four questions will be filled out from five perspectives:
African American
Hispanic
Native American
White
Female
Specific indicators will be identified that supports the belonging scores:
Range of periods covered
Is precolonial period discussed?
Is recent period of Hispanic migrant labor discussed?
Is emphasis placed Jim Crow period (1900-1950s) of racial segregation segregation?
Range of experiences portrayed
Is canning and processing highlighted?
Is labor of women highlighted?
Emphasis given to white male watermen?
Scope of the narratives.
Is treatment of racial and ethnic minority groups in the maritime industry discussed?
Are unequal gender roles in maritime industry discussed?
Is current status of Native people discussed?
From the five perspectives, a single graphic Coxcomb Graph will be created that graphically displays the average belonging score for each cultural group.
