Team Leader: Dani
Leadership Day(s): Baltimore, Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay Area is called home by many Indigenous Peoples; with its many waterways and coastlines, this land has provided ways of travel and sustenance for survival. However, with the arrival of Captain John Smith and other European settlers began the slow removal of these Indigenous Peoples from their tribal lands. Today, the Chesapeake Bay is just one of many natural areas suffering from the human exploitation of the environment and the lack of applied Indigenous knowledge. The goal of my Leadership Day is to explore the presence, or lack thereof, of Native voices in the Chesapeake Bay Area and how this impacts Chesapeake Bay culture and health.

The Nause-Waiwash are descendants of the original Nanticoke Indians, whose home was, and still is the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They are working towards making their presence more well known, and would be a great resource to speak to.
