How do you send your cremated remains to Cherished Keepsakes? The United States Postal Service offers the only legal method of shipping cremated remains domestically or internationally. When a family member assumes the responsibility of shipping a loved one’s cremated remains, they can trust the USPS Priority Mail® Service.
You are sending cremated remains to an artisan/crafts-person to incorporate the remains into a memorial keepsake, jewelry, or other work of art and there are specific requirements for preparing, packaging, and shipping human or animal cremated remains. The US Postal Service is there to help you understand how to meet these requirements and take the necessary steps to protect this special mailing. By following these requirements, you can be confident that you have done everything you can so that your loved one’s remains can arrive at the destination safely.
After placing your order with Cherished Keepsakes, you will be sent two containers — an inner container and an outer container: The inner container will be durable enough to protect and securely contain the contents inside (about 1-3 ounces of cremains/ashes). It must be labeled and properly sealed so that it does not allow loose powder to leak or sift out during transit. Please place the inner container into the second container and seal it before placing it in the mailing kit.
Before closing and sealing the shipping box or package, complete the included form with both the sender’s and addressee’s address and contact information inside the box [please print clearly]. If for any reason, the address label on the box/package is obscured or lost, postal employees will still be able to identify the sender and receiver of the package. We highly recommend you use the small USPS Priority Mail box. The Postal Service offers the free boxes to customers who use Priority Mail service.
Delivery of your finished keepsake piece(s) will arrive within 4-6 weeks of receiving the cremains from you. Due to the "layered setting" method, Family Collections and larger tabletop pieces may take up to 10 weeks.
