BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Tiantian (Nicole) Chen is an assistant professor at Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Mobility at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST). She received her M.S. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2015 and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU) in 2021. Before joining KAIST, Nicole had worked at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at HKPolyU and the center for advances in reliability and safety (CAiRS) in Hong Kong Science Park. She specializes in human factors, human-centered design, traffic safety, multi-user driving simulator experiments, connected and autonomous vehicles, policy design, travel behavior, and applications of statistical methods. Nicole has over 20 journal publications including prestigious transportation & safety journals such as Transportation Research Part A, C, E, F, Analytic Methods in Accident Research, and Accident Analysis & Prevention.
Nicole has garnered notable accolades, including the 2019/20 OSH Best Project Scholarship, and the Runner-up Award in the HKIE-SSC Project Competition 2021. Her awards also include the Best Paper Award in the 5th ICTIS Conference in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and the HKSAR Government Reaching Out Award (ROA) for the 6th ICMC in Kobe, Japan. She received a Postdoctoral Fellowship from Hong Kong Polytechnic University for her dedication and scholarly contributions. Moreover, she achieved distinction as the International Category Award Winner at the 2023 KAIST Q-Day (School level). Notably, her guidance and mentorship led her PhD student to secure the esteemed Best Paper (First Prize) at the 27th International Conference of the Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies (HKSTS).
Nicole serves as a guest editor for reputable publications, such as the International Journal of Sustainable Transportation for the Special Issue on 'Innovations for Transportation Decarbonization'. Due to her expertise, she is a member of the IEEE Emerging Transportation Technology Testing (ET3) Technical Committee. Additionally, she holds the esteemed positions of International Committee Chair at the Korean Society of Transportation (KST), and Chair of the Departmental Internationalization Committee at the Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Mobility.
