We're in this together! I have been able to work with so many partners and acquire new partners for the schools I have worked at in the past. Here are a few highlights:
Chili's Math Night began as your family approaches the hostess stand. There, students were greeted with a one of a kind math children's place mat and menu designed collaboratively between myself and the community relations manager. From there, students would have a seat and be greeted by the school mascot and be led to a room full of face paint, math games, and more. Each night grew and each night was memorable.
Creating a Video Game had been a dream for 13 young special education students. Partnering them with a game designer, they created all the art work for their very first computer game that they got to take home on a CD. While simple in concept, the memory would last and leave many pursuing careers in computer science. We must find our students passions and inspire them to pursue those passions.
Norfolk State University was looking for ways to inspire local youth to aspire to college and attend their University. By partnering with Lynnhaven Elementary School, students were able to take advantage of what NSU offers. This started with a parent who worked at NSU and I started talking about what a partnership could offer.
Engaging Students Through Community Mentoring was my Professional Inquiry Project that culminated my LEAD Aspiring Administrators Program. Through the project I worked to fostering belonging for students to engage in online mentoring during the height of the pandemic using the community businesses.
Procedures for working with families and the community:
My door is always open.
While assuming best intentions, student safety is paramount, so all volunteers and those that work with students need to attend the division's required Volunteer Training.
Get to know families and what they do for a living and what they can offer the school.
Be visible in the community.
I worked closely with the Beach Bag program as the program began in Title I schools. It is one of the most important programs that I have been a part of. Please consider donating to the Beach Bag program. The donations are valued so much by the students.
