Below are the MAMS Program Learning Outcomes and Course Learning Outcomes.
Program Learning Outcomes:
PLO-1: [Leadership] Apply leadership and management skills within the museum setting. [MST 5163]
PLO-2: [Theory] Demonstrate advanced knowledge of museum theory and practices, including those related to exhibit development, programs, collections, curation, historic preservation, and education within museum settings. [MST 5113, MST 5183]
PLO-3: [Critical Thinking] Demonstrate an ability to evaluate, critically analyze, and synthesize information on museum topics, including the history of museums, federal regulations, and controversies in the field. [MST 5113 and capstone ePortfolio]
PLO-4: [Communication] Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. [All classes and capstone ePortfolio]
PLO-5: [Technology] Apply technology skills in the museum setting for preservation, organization, outreach, programming, and more. This may include digitization, website design, databases, record keeping, etc. [MST 5073]
PLO-6: [Research] Critically evaluate research and literature in the cultural heritage field; Demonstrate application of quantitative and qualitative research methods to systematic inquiry. [MST 5143 and CAS/MST 5083]
PLO-7: [Ethics] Implement professional standards of ethical responsibility, multicultural awareness, and diversity in professional practice, collections, and services; Use cultural competency to interact appropriately with people with diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and identities. [Most classes]
Classroom Learning Outcomes:
CLO-A: To demonstrate knowledge gained throughout the program and to apply that knowledge to a relevant museum or archives problem.
CLO-B: To produce an ePortfolio that demonstrates critical thought, exhibits a level of analysis appropriate to a master’s degree, and displays a high level of professionalism and competence both in the written and oral presentation deliverables.
CLO-C: Identify and complete a professional ePortfolio capstone project
CLO-D: Successfully present the capstone ePortfolio project in a video presentation
CLO-E: Provide professional feedback to peers on their capstone projects and professional ePortfolio
CLO-F: Write professional quality narratives as part of the capstone project
