Lawrence Chehardy played a pivotal role in establishing the firm and dedicated thirty-four years to serving as the Assessor of Jefferson Parish. His expertise extended to becoming a foremost authority on Louisiana's property tax laws, testifying before legislative committees and contributing significantly to the Louisiana Assessors’ Association.
Within the association, Mr. Chehardy held key positions such as President, Vice-president, and Treasurer. He actively participated in various boards and committees. Beyond local engagements, he shared his knowledge with organizations and civic groups, featuring as a guest speaker at events like the American Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Seminar and the International Association of Assessing Officers’ continuing education seminars.
Over his four-decade career, Mr. Chehardy demonstrated adeptness in navigating politics and advancing legislation. Notably, as the principal architect of post-Katrina and post-Rita legislation, he ensured fair property taxation for owners affected by hurricanes. This legislation played a crucial role in the recovery and revitalization of storm-devastated areas by easing the property tax burden. Since 2016, he has held the position of Chairman of the Louisiana Tax Commission.
