Hello! My name is Carmen Harrison. My husband and I have been married for 26 years and have 5 sons. My oldest recently got married and I finally have a daughter! We enjoy backpacking in the Uinta Mountains, collecting heart rocks, and playing games. 3 years ago, I broke my wrist when I fell on a hike and I wondered if I would ever be able to become an interpreter. I believe in overcoming challenges and have witnessed my weaknesses become my strengths. I will graduate Spring 2025 with two associate degrees. ASL/English Interpreting and ASL.
I grew up in Burley, Idaho and was raised with five brothers and four sisters. Growing up in a large family required me to collaborate and figure out how to work together to achieve common goals. My life was filled with sharing, compromising and negotiating with multiple siblings for resources, time and space. As an interpreter, I will work with a variety of clients and team members and this soft skill of conflict resolution will aid my work.
I served an LDS mission over 29 years ago in the California, San Diego Mission where I met and became friends with a Deaf missionary, Miriam Haws. I became fascinated with ASL and developed a love for Deaf people and their culture. A few years ago Miriam encouraged me to take an ASL class and ultimately cheered me on to become an interpreter.
