Pre Production
Risk Assessment
This is my risk assessment. My risk assessment covers most of my filming as it is all typically the same for filming and production days. The risks are very generic such as injury's, illness, camera damage etc. Risk assessments can be sent around to my cast and crew to ensure that everyone works well and safely, overall limiting risk of physical injury's and damage to equipment which may further pose risk to the filming and creation of my documentary. I wrote up about risks such as injury and illness to cast and crew as
this may affect when I am actually able to film and how I am able to film if there are injury's which may impact how I can film. I added risks such as camera equipment getting damaged and footage being deleted as this is a risk which will impact the technicality's of the project. For example, if the equipment I was using did get damaged I may not being able to film that day or take out further equipment out. This would be detrimental to the success of my project.
This is why it is important to outline risks for filming as it may effect my project further.
Location recce
These are my location recces, one is for my friend Jesses house which I will be conducting an interview at. This location recce details the requirements of Jesses house, the problems that I might run into whilst filming here and how I may resolve these problems. I have outlined that I am using natural lighting and will be filming in one or two rooms of the house and that I have gained permission from Jesses parents. I have also listed the problems I may face whilst filming. Soem of these problems may be based on angles within
the house and how natural lighting will effect it. I have also outlined the element of if other people are within the house as this could mean there are people in the background of shots or people making loud noise. This will effect my documentary as it could take the focus away from the subject of my documentary and what is being said or done. To resolve these problems I have outlined that I will assess possible filming locations within Jesses house and see where and how I could film our interview and b - roll footage to go with it. I have also said that I can take a LED light to see if that improves the lighting from what it already is when I arrive. And finally to limit other people being in the shot or irrelevant background music I have worked with Jess to find out when she is available when there is no one else in the house.
This is my location recce for the record shop that I will be filming in and also conducting an interview in. I have outlined that I have been in communication with the owners to discuss me being able to film there and to interview one of the owners and that it will only be me and a camera operator there so that we dont get too in the way. I have once again outlined that problems that I
may run into are based on people in the area and background noise which may affect my documentary and that I will be using natural lighting so there may be a chance that it is not as bright as I would like. To resolve these issues I have described that I can wait until its quiet and no one is in to film the interview and stop if someone does come in. For sound I can use a microphone. For this interview the clip on mic may not be beneficial as it has quite a short lead so I may want to use the microphone from my phone. As well as this, I will also be taking a small LED incase the lighting is not that great.
I will be filming the invbetween sections where I reflect on what has been said or done in my bedroom. I have chose this specific background as there is lots of music posters, pictures and albums which can emphasise the musical impact that is had on people and mu primary and secondary audience. For permissions my parents have allowed me to film in our house and it will only be me and one other
person to help me film. I have again talked about the issues that I may run into being around the sound and lighting. To resolve these issues I can use a microphone to strengthen the sound and audio quality and have an LED to hand incase of poor lighting. Overall all of these ways to resolve issues in each location with help my documentary get better and be as good quality as I can make it.
Shot list
Shot lists are important as they outline what shots I will be filming, the size of the short, the angle of the shot, any movement, a description and if its interior or exterior. I have outline the first 3 scenes as a lot of my documentary will be filmed as and when it happens and there is only a few shots that need to be planned for. This is mainly my opening sequence as to ensure that I have enough b - roll I need to plan for what I am filming. I have gone
through from the opening scene to me asking about what I think about ai and how I will be speaking to jess. Then I have added my provisional ideas for the interview with Jess. I could have done more for my production log as I should plan for my whole documentary but a lot of it will just be based on what happens whilst I am filming and when I show up to the locations.
Storyboard
Similar to my shot list, a story board is used to outline what shots I will be using and how I plan for them to look. I was very clear I wanted a strong opening scene which shows good understanding of the shots I want. This is a more visual plan for what I want rather than the shot list as this just says what it is. In my story board I have shown a range of different shots that are related to music, ai or technology as this is all relevant footage for what I will be talking about.
Release Form
These are my release forms from the three people that appear in my documentary. Release forms basically say that the person featured is okay with me using footage with them in. When filming with Jess and Rob I simply asked for them to read through it and ask if this was okay and if they could sign it. As I spoke to Dean over a zoom call I just emailed it to him and asked for him to do the same.
Script
Once again I cannot plan out what exactly will be said by each person that appears in my documentary so I have created a step opening script. This outlines a rough idea of what will be said and done when in the documentary. For example I have roughly said "I will be meeting with my friend Jess..." and then have put in brackets where I showing this interview and then where I will be talking about my findings and so on.
Rough edit 1
The overall feedback from this rough edit was that it just needed to be finished. As well as this, Rob said that I should try to adjust the stabilizer settings as there were a few shots that it was used on where it seemed a bit wobbly and not very clear.
