Originally the Charlais Women's Network, the organization had its beginnings in 1988 as a babysitting co-op when a group of women in the then-new Charlais neighborhood felt a need to get to know other women with young children and share babysitting duties. As the neighborhood grew and women got better acquainted, many members found the co-op organization no longer necessary. However, they did not want to drop out of the co-op because they enjoyed the social interaction it provided. Realizing the need and desire of women in our neighborhood to join together, the idea of the Charlais Women's Network was born. Cindy Lackey, our network's first president, and many other women contributed to the vision of this organization to fill the needs and desires of the women in our neighborhood. The governing purpose was put forth and remains today. Our boundaries for membership have expanded to include the Somerset and Arbor Ridge subdivisions.
In 2015, our members agreed to open the organization to all of our neighbors ages 21 and older within our boundary range. As a result of inviting male members, the organization agreed to alter our name to the Charlais Community Network to better reflect this inclusiveness.
Our Community Network in the past consisted of an average of thirty members, of all different ages and interests, who are committed to making our neighborhood a better place to live. The network is currently small and in need of new members. We meet at least every six months to address matters of concern, develop new relationships and contacts, work on projects, and have a good time. We provide two ways of being involved in the network: full membership or financial supporter. If you want to join us or make any donations click on the underlined links.
