Each summer, the newly appointed DECA officers get together to make plans for the upcoming school year. This includes, determining the chapters community projects, deciding on their competitive event, and establishing goals for themselves and the chapter. The retreat is also meant to build friendships and have some fun as a team.
This year, we stayed at the YMCA in Winter Park. In addition to the work accomplished, we had a great time zip lining, hiking, tubing and having a great time in the mountains.

The Buffalo Stampede is a competition for first year DECA participants. It is a great way to get feedback while competing against peers who are at your same level. Each judge will give you feedback on your performance while you are with them.

The Wolverine Invitation is a DECA competition hosted by Chap each year. It includes a multitude of schools inside and outside of Douglas County. It is the first competition where you can accurately measure how you compete compared to first year and experienced members. Additionally, it is great practice for districts and state.

Drive Safe Week was a week created in order to spread awareness of the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence and distracted driving. We wanted to encourage the Chaparral community to drive responsibly to protect not only themselves, but others as well. We partnered with Sammie’s Sunshine foundation and through donations, crew neck sales, and a charity basketball tournament, we were able to raise $6,200. This money will go to families impacted by reckless driving as well as additional initiatives to educate teens.
Activities through the week included:
6 v 6 Volleyball tournament
driving simulations
Flight-for-Life visit and demonstration
