Blended Learning

Planning for Blended Instruction

As you consider how you might use some of the tools in this Blended Learning Toolbox, consider the following questions.

  • What is your instructional goal? What do you want students to know, understand, and be able to do? Then, choose the tool(s) that best supports this outcome.

  • How might the use of the online and face to face activities support and develop Portrait of a Graduate attributes? Consider how you might use the available rubrics and resources with students to support their understanding of these skills and help them reflect upon their own progress.

  • How might you leverage these online resources to give students greater control over the time, path, pace, and place of their learning?

  • How might these tools help you repurpose your face to face time?

  • How might you design a virtual learning environment in Blackboard that provides digital tools for students and supports the learning that is happening in your physical classroom? The goal is a seamless connection between face to face and online learning.

When you’re first starting to design more blended instruction, don’t feel like you have to consider all of this at once. Pick one area on which to focus. When you’re comfortable with that one change, try something else. Also, know that your School-Based Technology Specialist (SBTS) is there to support you along the way!
