What are some of the connections we see in the world around us?
How do they connect us to our environment?
In this Unit, the enduring idea was connections. The goal was to share how there are connections all around us in such a way that would make it easy and less intimidating to kindergarteners as they faced new concepts. The unit introduced 3-dimensional shapes called forms and prisms. Building on that, they went on a virtual tour of several famous buildings in the United States and were encouraged to spot the different combined shapes architects used to create such buildings. With the tools to see shapes and connections in the world around them, the students were ready. Their Art Project was to create a city that would include; houses, streets, city blocks, playground equipment, statues, parks, and foliage. It was a huge undertaking for only five days of class time, but they were excited and blew everyone's expectations out of the park. Their city got to be displayed front and center for parent-teacher conference week.
