ATM F620: Climate Journal Club Seminar
This session reviews seminal and inspiring papers on weather, climate, and their interface across spatial scales from regional to global. The instructor and students take turns presenting selected papers, answering audience questions, and leading discussions.
ATM F444/F644: Weather Analysis and Forecasting (scheduled for Spring 2027)
This course introduces the fundamental dynamics governing synoptic-scale atmospheric motions in the midlatitudes, including quasi-geostrophic dynamics and potential vorticity conservation. These principles are applied to the analysis and forecasting of various features represented on synoptic weather maps, including jet streaks, troughs and ridges, fronts, surface cyclones, blocking, atmospheric rivers, and extratropical transition. Particular emphasis is placed on the life cycle, frontal structure, and cloud patterns of extratropical cyclones.
