Petition to NYSED

A group of families submitted a 310 petition to NYSED. A 310 allows parents or others to ask the Commissioner of Education to review a decision made by a local school board that they feel has harmed their children.

This 310 was filed in August in response to the decision at the July 8, 2021 Board of Education meeting to re-instate the “Indians” mascot, after the Board voted to remove it at the June 17, 2021 meeting. The petition centered on evidence of the harm Native mascots pose to students.
