Salem Central School, located ten miles north, has merged high-school sports programs in football, wrestling, and field hockey with Cambridge. As our schools recognize that dwindling populations in our small communities affect enrollment numbers, this combined sports program will likely grow. Together, they have run a very successful pee-wee football program for years, using Tigers and Cubs as their emblems. The Cambridge-Salem team colors are black, orange and purple; the schools have done an excellent job of bridging the two teams and their combined spirits together. It is our position that this merger of sports teams signals an opportunity for a new mascot, one that recognizes this partnership, and honors both schools' commitment to sports excellence, racial equity and social justice.
