Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. Things will undoubtedly look and feel different this year, but I am very much looking forward to being back in the classroom with your child and embarking on this hybrid learning journey together!

A little bit about me -

I have been working with kids for nearly twelve years, first as a preschool assistant teacher, and most recently as a second grade teacher here at Rowe. Prior to being in the classroom, I was a special education technician for five years at Riverton (now Talbot). The majority of my professional career has been spent working in special education, which means that I bring to this position an in-depth understanding of learning differences and the importance of recognizing the whole child. I know that your child won’t learn unless they feel heard, valued, and appreciated by their teacher.

I also recognize that no one knows your child better than you do. The more I know and understand about your child, the more effective I can be as a teacher. Our partnership will be key to ensuring your child’s success, so please know that at any time I am just an email or phone call away.

How to get in touch with me -

It is generally easiest to get a hold of me by email.

  • chambm@portlandschools.org

  • Rowe School - 874-8205

  • Text - Talking Points (more info to come)

How should I contact you?

Please reply and let me know the best way to be in touch with you: do you prefer email, phone, or a texting app?

What are your child’s dismissal plans?

Please also notify me how your child will typically end their day (e.g. Rec, walking, or getting picked up by car). This will be the “default” plan for dismissal unless I hear otherwise from you.

Supplies -

Rowe School will supply:

  • Basic school supplies (pencils, scissors, crayons, glue, etc.)

  • FREE breakfast, snack (in school) and lunch (to go home)

You will need to supply:

  • A mask

  • A water bottle (with a straw is easiest)

Optional extras:

(Extras are very much appreciated!)

  • Tissues

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Cleaning wipes

At Home Learning-

For the first 2 weeks of school, the second grade team will be sending home paper packets of work for your child’s Remote Learning days (learning at home).

  • Our online learning programs will be:

    • Seesaw (for all information and directions)

    • Google Meets (for live meetings)

    • LearnZillion (for math)

    • EPIC (for reading)

    • Raz-Kids (for reading)

  • The first week of school your child will be asked to make sure they can sign into seesaw, but no remote assignments will be posted or due. PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD’S BACKPACK AFTER SCHOOL THIS WEEK FOR A PRINT-OUT EXPLAINING HOW TO SET UP AND SIGN INTO SEESAW.

  • As soon as tech is made available, we will spend classroom time preparing students for these online programs. We will also be providing simple instructions and/or videos to help you learn how to help your child.

Thank you in advance for your patience during this process. Similarly, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know if you need help with learning platforms or assignments. I look forward to working with your family this year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Chambers
