- The US Forest Service divides the 154 National Forests and 20 National Grasslands into nine distinct regions.
- Region 1: Northern
- Region 2: Rocky Mountain
- Region 3: Southwestern
- Region 4: Intermountain
- Region 5: Pacific Southwest
- Region 6: Pacific Northwest
- Region 8: Southern
- Region 9: Eastern
- Region 10: Alaska
- Each of these regions contains National Forests or National Grasslands, which are composed of sub-units called Ranger Districts.
