Can you please let me know how do you erase your white chalkboard wall? I just painted my room with it and 2 weeks after I am trying to get it out because wanted to paint somethibg else and I cannot get the chalk off the wall non with the water and vinegar neither the coca cola. I did not aplird the primming had no idea and now my wall is a mess csn you please help me.

A blackboard can simply be a board painted with a dark matte paint (usually black, occasionally dark green).[1] Matte black plastic sign material (known as closed-cell PVC foamboard) is also used to create custom chalkboard art.[2] Blackboards on an A-frame are used by restaurants and bars to advertise daily specials.[3]

The scratching of fingernails on a blackboard, as well as other pointed, especially metal objects against blackboards, produces a sound that is well known for being extremely irritating to most people.[10] According to a study run by Michael Oehler, a professor at the University of Cologne, Germany, humans are "predisposed to detest" the sound of nails on a blackboard.[11] The findings of the study were presented at the Acoustical Society of America conference and support earlier findings from a 1986 study by Vanderbilt psychologist Randolph Blake and two colleagues found that the sound of nails on a chalkboard annoyed people even when the high-pitch frequencies were removed. The study earned Blake a 2006 Ig Nobel Prize.[12]

The use of blackboard did change methods of education and testing, as found in the Conic Sections Rebellion of 1830 in Yale.[18]Manufacturing of slate blackboards began by the 1840s.[4] Green porcelain enamel surface, was first used in 1930, and as this type of boards became popular, the word "chalkboard" appeared.[4] In the US green porcelain enamelled boards started to appear at schools in 1950s.[19]

So you had a client request a big design for some chalkboards, easy enough right? But then you get into it and you've had to erase and start over multiple times, projects like this can turn into time and money sucks real fast. How do you create the perfect design without spending a ton of time on it? Here's a glimpse at my process for when I need more precision than just free-handing a chalkboard design. After the design is finished I change the background to black and make the design a bright neon color so it'll be easy to see when projected onto the chalkboard and I'll still be able to see my white marker overtop of it.

I use this projector. I save my design onto a flash drive and then attach the flash drive directly to the projector. Make sure the image is focused and center on the chalkboard before getting started!

Once the sanding was complete, it was time to paint. Before that though, I chose to add a border edge around my new chalkboard surface, similar to what I did for our Central Command Center. I felt adding this edge would give the wall a cleaner, more finished/polished look.

Paint (at least) two coats of the magnetic primer, allowing 30 minutes to dry between each coat. Two hours later, paint the first coat of chalkboard paint. Wait two hours before adding the second coat. Allow 24 hours to dry completely.

hello, this is such a cool idea. I am interested in doing the same, I am just wondering how the chalkboard actually holds up, meaning does the chalk erase well or leave behind smudges or marks? Also the magnets, I am guessing lighter magnets nothing too heavy, is it pretty sturdy?

That looks so fun. I am a little confused. The box you showed says it is magnetic paint, but you talked about using chalkboard paint, and I see that is what its being used for. Does magnetic paint come out like that?

I think this idea is inspired! I almost like the matte chalkboard look better than stainless steel. And you WANT the kids to put marks on the chalkboard, unlike SS where you constantly have to buff it.

Oh my goodness this is awesome! We are finishing up on a big kitchen remodel. I have replaced my dishwasher and microwave with black ones. We have future plans to replace the fridge and stove with black but after a trip to the orthodontist with DD yesterday that will not be anytime soon. This would solve my problem and give me my black fridge much cheaper. I wonder what I would do with the handles and ice maker part since they are white. Any suggestions? Also when you wipe it down with a wet rag does it look nice and black or does it have the white film that most chalkboards have on it?

Hey Autumn! Have you considered another color other than black? If you did a lighter chalkboard color, you could just leave the white stripping. You can pretty much mix any color into a chalkboard solution at your local paint store. I hope that helps you!

I just started my first year of university and because I'm visually impared I have trouble seeing what's written on the chalkboard.I've partially solved this problem by purchasing chalk from hagoromo and asking my professors to use it. (Leaves a wider and nicer line and erases more cleanly).

STEP 1: Paint MDF board with chalkboard paint

Follow instructions on the can. I did two coats and waited 24 hours between each. Be sure to lightly sand between each coat with your fine grit sanding block to achieve a smooth finish.

Most of the supplies can be purchased at your local Home Depot, but the galvanized metal sheet had to be preordered and custom made. Even though it was harder to get, it was super important to me since I really wanted Ziya to have a magnetic chalkboard wall.

After it has been painted, let the chalkboard cure for at least 3 days. Then, to season the chalkboard, rub a piece of chalk sideways over the entire surface and erase it afterwards. This will make sure that it will erase properly when you write on it.

I make a lot of chalkboards. Another tip to add is that over time the chalk board can get full of chalk and quite messy looking BUT you CAN wash the chalkboard with a damp cloth and a bit of liquid soap. Then you must start over and season it again, as you described.

Thank you for posting this helpful tidbit!! Unfortunately I found it a tad to late. I ju8st purchased my first chalkboard and hung it in the bathroom to display funny or inspirational quotes. Sadly the first thing I wrote on there is now there forever.

Thanks for this info. We will do this today with our chalkboards for a wedding. We are planning to use chalkboard markers. Have you found they are erasable like chalk? Finding out good chalkl is hard to find with teachers using dry erase markers these days. Thank you.

Thanks for the information, I just made a chalkboard on the front of my refrigerator doors. I used the Rust-Oleum chalkboard spray paint because they were out of the roll on. Now to season it. This was a big help. Thank you

I was super jazzed to try out a new DIY at the Renegade Craft Fair, and it was a hit. People were stoked to paint, and even more excited to chalk up their pots. You can do the same at home with some chalkboard paint and flower pot. Then paint with some succulents, and make sure to water once a month!

I have a June 2015 wedding coming up and I am anxious to start doing the signs with chalkboards. How early can I begin making these? How long will they last if kept in my basement and sprayed with hairspray?

You have seen this chalkboard several times, but I just recently realized that I never shared how I made it! You first saw me use it on my Christmas mantel with my music page wreath hanging in front of it.

For this chalkboard paint project, I used an old mirror I found last summer at a flea market. However, you could also paint over the glass of an old frame or paint a chalkboard directly to a wall. First, I painted chalkboard paint on my mirror and waited 24 hours after the final coat dried. (I did two coats for this project.) Next, I printed out my lettering for the mirror.

Forgive me but I am new to your blog. The picture shows step my step but the post has no explanation of the steps. What kind of primer did you use in step 3 or is that the chalkboard paint. Did you sand down the glossy crockpot paint?

You just need to take a small piece of chalk and rub it all over your chalkboard. Once the chalkboard is covered, take a paper towel and rub the chalk in. This will help reduce ghosting big time in the future.

To avoid ghosting altogether, you should always season your chalkboard before you use it and not leave your lettering on the chalkboard for too long. If you do those two things, you should really be able to avoid ghosting in the future. ?

I used hardboard (like pegboard but without the holes), and Rustoleum spray chalkboard paint to create the chalkboard panels. I also seasoned them by rubbing the entire surface with chalk and wiping away, although they look pretty clean in the photos.

LOVE the chalkboard frames. My question is what else can be used to paint the chalkboard on instead of the hard board? I have wanted to make one of these for the longest time but I am looking for another source for the chalkboard. Do you have any suggestions? Much appreciated.
