All students will receive one final grade for both English 1A/1B and ERWC. Faculty teams will work together to determine students’ grades (for more information, see “Faculty Roles” below). The requirements from CalGETC, the 1A COR, as well as the Chaffey English Department require that the majority of the grade be based on the required essays. In addition, the COR requires all 1A students to complete three supplemental activities via our Success Centers. These activities strongly correlate to student success and improved outcomes (higher grades) in English 1A and, per department guidelines, should be worth not less than 5% of the total course grade. Please note that Chaffey College does not issue C- grades. A C- is recorded as a C.
A rough sample grading scale for the course could look like this:
Faculty should work together to design and/or agree upon rubrics and/or grading guidelines for individual assignments, including the major essays. Links to sample rubrics and guidelines are available in the Teaching Resources section of this handbook.
