Led by Prof. David Ussery, the Comparative Genomics and Structural Biology Team works to understand infectious diseases through the integrated analysis of pathogen genomes, proteins, and evolutionary patterns. Our mission is to combine comparative genomics, structural biology, bioinformatics, and data-driven approaches to identify how microbes emerge, evolve, spread, and cause disease. By linking genome variation to protein function, antimicrobial resistance, virulence, host adaptation, and outbreak risk, we aim to generate actionable knowledge that supports infectious disease surveillance, preparedness, and public health response.
