The California Geographical Society invites faculty, students, and professionals to present papers, posters, and/or maps at our annual conference to be held in Turlock, California, April 25-26, 2025. Presentations will take place Saturday, April 26. We welcome presentations from a broad range of geographical topics, regions, and themes. General guidelines are listed here, but please see the award section for additional submission details. Presenters must register for the conference by April 10.
All presenters must register for the conference. Abstracts for all presentations will be published in California Geography. Deadline to register if you are a presenter is April 10, 2025. Please do not submit more than one presentation.
All student presenters will be included in the Student Competition. Students presenting must carefully review the Student Competition Announcement. Other paper presenters may also find this information useful. Thanks to a generous donation from Professor Bill Bowen, students who are first authors on a paper, poster, or map may register for a free Saturday banquet. Please note that CGS judges reserve the right to not give out awards if there are not enough submissions or if the presentations do not meet the judging criteria.
All papers must be presented within a maximum 20-minute period, including time for questions. The CGS will provide a PC and digital projector for presentations. Please familiarize yourself with all hardware and software in your venue before presenting. You are strongly encouraged to bring backups of all digital media – including a PDF of your presentation. If you have additional needs please inform the CGS in advance.

All student poster presenters will be assigned an appointment time to present to the judges. Students presenting papers in the student competition must carefully review the Student Competition Announcement. Stanislaus State will provide easels and poster-board (36x48") for displaying posters. Presenters will also have an opportunity to display a digital copy of their poster in our public online gallery.
Presenters may enter a paper map, digital map, or StoryMap. All student map presenters will be assigned an appointment time to present to the judges. Students presenting papers in the student competition must carefully review the Student Competition Announcement. Other paper presenters may also find this information useful.
Stanislaus State will provide easels and poster-board (36x48") for displaying printed maps. Digital map and StoryMap presenters are encouraged to bring their own laptops to display their maps. Guest WiFi will be provided. A few PC computers with web browsers will be available for digital maps, but the PCs will not have remote sensing or GIS software. Presenters will also have an opportunity to display a digital copy of their maps in our public online gallery.
