On October 22nd, at the Ventura Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting, a resolution was presented proclaiming the week of October 19-26, 2019, as California Flood Preparedness Week in Ventura County.

Discover what you need to know to prepare your family for a flood at the City of Sacramento’s Flood Preparedness Fun Fair. This event will have hands-on activities, interactive flood displays, and food trucks. Learn how to fill sandbags, find your evacuation routes, sign up for emergency alerts, and watch rescuers in action as they perform water rescues.
This event will be held in partnership with FEMA, DWR, USACE, and CVFPB. Parking is provided on-site for free.

During the Flood Preparedness week (October 19-26, 2019), the Santa Barbara County Flood Control and Water Conservation District will be displaying two exhibits containing Flood Preparedness brochures in English and Spanish, video presentation on Flood Preparedness, FEMA’s Flood Plain web-based maps (citizens can type in the address and see whether their house is in Floodplain), flood related videos, historic photos on flooding, and other information.

The San Mateo County’s Flood Resilience Program, in cooperation with the Office of Emergency Services, is hosting two flood fighting workshops in preparation for Flood Preparedness Week. The training will include working with sandbags, shovels, twine, stakes, sledgehammers, visqueen, and PPEs, as well as an in-class training on their proper use. The workshops are intended for personnel coordinating and responding to flood emergencies. The all-day workshops will focus on the regions encompassing the Cities of Redwood City, Menlo Park, Town of Atherton, Belmont, San Carlos, South San Francisco, and San Bruno.

Hosted by County Offices of Emergency Services in partnership with the State-Federal Flood Operations Center, these meetings provide regional and local updates on annual flood preparedness activities.
