Barbara Levorson is a piano and theory teacher in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Her studio is focused on the RCM Certificate Program, and she has been the RCM Centre Representative for over 13 years. She has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Marketing and Management Information Systems from Queen’s University. Her early career was in the IT field, working in several software and consulting companies in marketing and management. She later became an MYC teacher and pursued further studies in music and music education, receiving the 2013 Gold Medal for RCM Elementary Piano Pedagogy. She completed the RCM SmartStart Teacher program and incorporates neural learning strategies for her neurotypical and neurodiverse students. She has taken courses through the Canadian Diversity Initiative in Unconscious Bias in the Workplace, Indigenous Culture, and LGBTQ+ Diversity and Inclusion. She is on the national committee for Connecting Canada Year-Round with CFMTA, presenting a variety of business and studio management topics, and she is also the Community Music Award Coordinator with the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers Association. As a former member of the provincial board for the Saskatchewan Orchestral Association, she worked with wonderful pedagogues and musicians to bring orchestral music to youth in the province.She strongly believes in the importance, as a music professional, to volunteer and contribute to the larger music community. She previously spent many years on the Band Parents' Auxiliary, the Executive for Swift Current and District Music Festival, and PR Officer for the Registered Music Teachers of Swift Current.While currently a member of SRMTA, Barbara will be moving to Kingston, Ontario in the Fall of 2026 and looks forward to meeting and working with new colleagues. She enjoys family, gardening, camping, kayaking, and lives with her Norwegian Elkhound dog and an increasingly cranky cat.
