In the first step, the F, BL, and BR hexagon centers are solved. This naturally also solves the edges of the bottom layer, creating the same first step as Cross in CFOP where the bottom layer edges are solved and all centers are in position. The edges of the U layer will also automatically be solved. This step is highly intuitive. A good strategy is to solve one center, keep it at BL, then solve the remaining two centers using <R, r, U, F>. Having the F2L triples unsolved during this step allows for the use of F moves to handle center solving situations that would be more difficult in some other methods.
