Plagiarism, AI, and Documenting Your Writing History

This course centers on your thinking and your voice. Writing here does not need to be perfect, but it must be your own.

All work submitted in this course must be original and written specifically for this class. When you quote or draw from course texts or other sources, you must give appropriate credit using quotation marks and parenthetical citations.

Clear, imperfect writing that shows genuine engagement is always preferred to polished writing that is not your own.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Because this course is designed to help you develop as a reader and writer, AI‑generated or AI‑enhanced writing tools are not permitted on any assignments.

This includes:

• Generating written responses using AI tools

• Substantially revising or “polishing” your writing using AI‑driven tools

• Submitting AI‑generated or AI‑altered writing as your own work is considered plagiarism, even if only part of the assignment is affected.

Documenting Your Process

Writing is often uneven and non‑linear. Drafts, notes, and revisions are a natural part of honest work.

If questions arise about an assignment, you may be asked to share evidence of your writing process, such as drafts, notes, or document history (such as Google Docs version history).

Consequences

Work that includes plagiarism or unauthorized AI use will receive a zero for the assignment and may result in further action under college academic integrity policies.
