Your Story Slide Scanning & Photo Restoration

In New Zealand every family has boxes of slides or prints stored away. In a dry dark place they will last 50 years  or more. The problem is, they cannot be easily shared nor preserved, unless they are converted to digital images. 

Gone are the slide projector evenings hosted by granddad the baby boomer generation so enjoyed. It's a shame, but most slide projectors have since been retired and one day even the ability to scan them may disappear too. Maybe you are working on a family archives document and you want those old photos to really pop way beyond what you can possibly do yourself. Your family are also going to love seeing these blasts from the past on their devices from anywhere.

How Your Story can preserve your memories

• Selecting Slides.  This is a job for you as no doubt there are a lot to choose from. We are happy to do as many as you want and to your budget. If you don't have a hand held portable slide viewer anymore then I suggest you buy one. Once back in their boxes please number the box and take some notes as to what images are in it. It is also helpful if you put the box number on each slide, top left on the correct face for scanning would be great. 

• Cleaning. Slides and prints deteriorate over time and it is important to digitise them while you can. Most old slides get dirty, have mold or some kind of sticky contamination on them. Your slides are cleaned with a puffer brush and also 100% Isopropyl Alcohol if required. If slides are discovered to be beyond cleaning, often due to permanent mold damage they can still be scanned and we can do advanced photo restoration. Prints are dusted and cleaned without using any products that could potentially damage them.. 

• Scanning. Slides or prints are scanned in a professional photo scanner to high resolution jpeg files that can print to a large A4 size if you wish. We can scan all those tiny Box Brownie prints and easily recreate the colour lost in faded colour prints common in the 1960's to the 1980's. 

• Basic Photoshop. Each photo is retouched somehow in Photoshop, edited to digitally remove the photo of the worst of the dust spots and other marks that survived the cleaning process. Tone and Colour balance is also altered, we pay particular attention to portrait photos as these memories showing you, your friends and family are probably the most precious to you. 

• Advanced Photo Restoration. Slides or prints that are permanently scarred can be retouched. Done in Photoshop this can be a time consuming process especially if they are ripped or moth eaten but the results are pleasing. Please request this for specific featured photos. 

• Share your photos. Hi Res Photo files are delivered to you online where you can download the images and share the same folder with your family who can also download them. It's all so easy at Your Story. At no extra cost we can also upload a private viewing album to our google photo storage for ease of storage and presentation which your family will enjoy. 

Costs

• Every slide is individually retouched. Budget on $2.30 per slide which includes basic photo shop saved as JPEG files to 4000 pixels on the longest edge. We do a minimum of 30 slides or $80 which ever is greater.

• Personal pickup and delivery is FREE in Taupo or return delivery costs will apply outside of Taupo. 

• Courier return. $20 Track and Trace. Anywhere in NZ
