The Young Author’s project is a North Carolina Reading Association writing competition to provide students in grades K-12 an opportunity to have their writing and/or art published in a local and state anthology of student work.
Central Carolina Literacy Council (formerly BCLC) is pleased to announce that students in Durham, Person, Chatham, Orange, Alamance, Granville, Vance and Franklin have the opportunity to participate in the NCRA Young Authors’ Project this year. This year’s theme is, “Educate. Advocate. Empower”

The Young Authors' Writing Project is an engaging way to encourage writing across all grade levels.
Students who submit writing have the potential to win at 3 different levels: School, Council, and State.
All student submissions will be published on the Central Carolina Literacy Council website.
Authors may write in their first language and submit along with an English translation
Authors may write prose, poetry, fiction, or nonfiction.
Students may also submit an original design, art work, or photography for the cover of the 2026 NCRA Young Authors' Anthology.

The deadline to submit entries is Friday, November 21st, 2025
Each student may submit one writing entry AND one art entry.
Forever Young Writing Entries (18 and over) can be submitted by any CCLC member.
ALL CCLC members can submit up to 10 student writing entries and 5 art entries.
Join CCLC for $25. CCLC membership includes NCRA membership.
All members who submit entries must participate in online council YA scoring on December 6th, 2025 at 11:00am.

Student entries must be submitted on the NCRA 2025 Young Authors & Illustrators Google form. (link coming soon)
Teachers must have a signed consent form from the parent/guardian of entrant's under 18 (online or paper) (links coming soon)
Entries must be created and shared as a Google doc (no PDF or Word files) with viewing rights for anyone with the link.
These must be submitted as a google doc named as follows: GradeLevel_CCLC_LastNameFirstName
the author/artist grade level (PK, K for kindergarten, 01 for first, and so on through grade 12; Forever Young entries will be labeled FY

The document must be formatted as follows: (You can use this template to help format entries.)
First line is centered and is an original title, typed in bold, 12 point, Times New Roman font, with only the first letter of each major word in the title capitalized.
For the body, use 10 point, Times New Roman font, single spaced.
After the body of the piece, Skip two lines and then center the following information in 10 point Times New Roman font:
Author’s First and Last Name, Grade ______ (numerical) or Forever Young
Teacher/Sponsoring Member: Name (Teacher’s First and Last Name)
School Name
Local Council Name
