Jared Ross, Director of Bands
Center Hill Band Director, Mr. Jared Ross is from Birmingham, AL. His family relocated to Memphis in 1989. He graduated from Kirby High School in Southeast Memphis in 1997. He has been married to Mrs. Ross since 2001. He received his bachelor degree in Music Education from the University of Memphis in 2005 where he performed in with the "Mighty Sound of the South" marching band, Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra studying wind conducting under Dr. Sydney McKay and Dr. Kraig Williams. He received his master's degree in Music Education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2007 where he was an instruction assistant, his focused study was motivation theory in music education and studied wind conducting and tuba under Sam MacMorran of the Knoxville Symphony. Mr. Ross began his teaching career in Alabama in 2007 where he taught for seven years. Mr. Ross came to Center Hill in 2014.
Mr. Ross is a member of the Mississippi Bandmasters Association. He is a member of the Memphis Wind Symphony. He is an Eagle Scout and an alumnus of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. When Mr. Ross isn't band directing, he enjoys backpacking, hammocks, Ingress, trivia with friends, science fiction by Orson Scott Card, spending time with his family, and of course making music.
Jim Jolley, Assistant Director/Middle School Band
Jim Jolley is the Center Hill Middle School Band Director and general wise man. His is originally from Jackson, TN. He is an honor graduate from Horn Lake High School and has earned an Associate of Arts from Northwest Community College, Bachelors of Music Education from Mississippi State University, as well as a Masters of Music Education from The University of Mississippi.
He has taught at Southaven High School, Manchester Academy in Yazoo City MS, Horn Lake High School, and Center Hill Middle.
Mr. Jolley is a former member of the Starkville and Columbus community Orchestras and Olive Branch Community Band. He is happily married for 25 years to Janet McLarty Jolley and has 2 boys Blake and Jonathan. Mr. Jolley is also a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, plays guitar and banjo, has been a finalist in the Mid South Fair youth talent contest, and has been in 3 movies and on television twice
Nathan Garner, Assistant Director
Jamin McPhetrige, Assistant Director
Mr. Jamin McPhetrige is from Helena, Alabama. After graduating from Pelham High School, Mr. McPhetrige attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Euphonium Performance. While at Alabama, he marched in the Million Dollar Band and sat principal euphonium of the Alabama Wind Ensemble. Mr. McPhetrige studied euphonium under professor Mike Dunn and conducting under the late Dr. Gerald L. Welker. At Alabama, Mr. McPhetrige was a member of a tuba-euphonium quartet that won first place at the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina in 2003. He earned his Master of Music in Euphonium Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 2007, where he served as a graduate assistant for the band department and Tuba/Euphonium Studio. At USM, he served as principal euphonium of the USM Wind Ensemble and played euphonium and bass trumpet in the Symphony Orchestra. Mr. McPhetrige studied euphonium under Dr. Richard Perry. He was one of the three winners of the annual University Bands Concerto Competition and was a semi-finalist in the 2006 Music Teachers’ National Association (MTNA) Brass Solo Performance Competition in Tallahassee, Florida. Mr. McPhetrige has taught band since 2007 in Alabama, Florida, and most recently in Picayune, Mississippi.
Mr. McPhetrige is a member of the Mississippi Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, International Tuba and Euphonium Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In his free time, “Mr. Mac” enjoys reading, watching movies, painting, writing arrangements and original music, and spending time with his dog, Buddy.
