Cem Soner, CFA is a Doctoral Researcher and Instructor at Bangor Business School, specializing in political economy, financial markets, and regional inequality. His research examines how political shocks and uncertainty affect credit markets, sovereign bond yields, and SME finance across different geographical contexts.
His work has been published in the Journal of Rural Studies (Q1, ABS-3, 5-year IF: 6.1), with additional papers under review at leading journals. His research has been funded by the British Academy/Leverhulme Trust and the Taith Research Mobility Program (Welsh Government). He was previously awarded the Jean Monnet Scholarship (EU) for his master's degree and the Bangor Business School Doctoral Scholarship.
Cem has presented his research at international conferences including the MoFiR Banking Workshop, the BAFA IPSIG Doctoral Colloquium, and the International Accounting & Finance Doctoral Symposium. He is also a volunteer mentor with the Graduate Applications in Economics Network (GAIN), where he guides African students through the PhD application process. His mentees have successfully secured placements in North American economics programs with full scholarships.
Previously, he worked in the international development sector as a consultant. He holds a BSc in Economics from Bilkent University (Türkiye), an MSc in Corporate Finance from SDA Bocconi (Italy), and is completing his PhD in Finance at Bangor University (expected December 2025). He is a CFA Charterholder (2019).
