Cement Science @ UMA
Contributing to more sustainable building materials

Mission, Vision, Core values - About us
Mission: Cement Science Group (CemSciG) @ UMA is a research team which produces reliable high quality investigations and knowledge transfer in the building sector. We are also fully engaged in training young curious open-minds.
It started in 1999 evolving from the accumulated powder diffraction knowledge to spill over cement production challenges. It has been constantly evolving towards pastes, mortar and concrete analyses. Later, state-of-the-art synchrotron scattering techniques were implemented. Nowadays, we are also incorporating laboratory and synchrotron X-ray imaging (tomographic) tools for a thorough understanding of the complex hierarchical nature of the binding paste in construction materials.
Vision: To contribute to reduce CO2 footprint in the cement and concrete industries. To contribute to improve sustainability in the building field. To collaborate with private sector mainly through our characterization tool knowledge.
Core values: - Honesty, - Sustainability, - Social responsibility.

About us: (in a nutshell)
CemSciG @ UMA, that can be reached at cementscience@gmail.com, has been working for the last 20 years using an interdisciplinary research approach in the chemistry of cements and in the characterization of building materials.
So far, ten PhD Theses have been carried out supervised by members of CemSicG. Currently, there are six ongoing PhD Thesis projects.
