CEM Lab explores novel ground states in correlated electron materials. In these materials, due to electron-electron correlation and interplay of spin-charge-orbital on a lattice, novel ground states emerge e.g. spin-liquid, exotic magnetic order, superconductivity, charge density wave. These quantum ground states are investigated here by probing emerging quasiparticles or collective excitations in these materials.

Suitable materials for desired ground states are synthesized in single- and poly- crystalline form by a variety of techniques. The electronic and magnetic ground states are probed by ultra-low temperature [few Kelvin] measurements. Often we find useful materials for technological application e.g. Magnetic material for Spintronics applications. Often we may discover new materials with unknown quantum mechanical ground state. For materials, with fragile ground states like cuprates, we try to tune by external perturbations to achieve exotic electronic and magnetic ground states.
