The sound of accompanying bagpipes can be particularly appropriate when there is a family connection to Scotland, Ireland or perhaps a link to the military or other civilian services. But bagpipes are really for everyone who would like them.
Here are some moments to consider using a piper for. Not all of these need be included in your arrangements. Every funeral or memorial service is made personal and unique.
At the Church, Chapel or other Venue:
Play for family and friends entering.
Play for the coffin being carried into the service.
Play for the coffin being carried out.
At the Crematorium:
Lead the cortège to the crematorium.
Play for family and friends entering.
Play for the coffin going in.
Play for the family exiting.
At the Burial:
Lead the cortège to the graveside.
Play while mourners are assembling.
Play for the coffin being carried to graveside.
Play for lowering of the coffin.
Play as family make their way back to cars.
