Pink Tax/ Tampon Tax
Ever paid more for something you shouldn't have? Ever been picked on just because someone could ? Let me introduce the pink tax. The pink tax/tampon tax is imposed on women, girls, and anyone who buys feminine products. They are taxed more for goods, services, and products. The pink tax is not a true tax, but it is still an extra cost women have to pay for products, goods, and services set by the government, because it is looked at as a luxury. More like a system of gender-based pricing. It costs roughly $1,300 more per year for ladies and persons who identify as girls or women to buy/purchase certain goods or services. (Hoffman,1) I expect to learn why women are subjected to this charge and what things are affected. It is critical for me to go into this topic since the pay gap is also discouraging for women; males are already paid more, yet women must spend more out of pocket for the same goods and services. This is a way that women are challenged when they go to acquire commodities, products, and services. My topic fits under my group's theme of women's oppression due to the fact that I'm researching, studying, putting all my findings on paper, then publishing them for my classmates and teacher, and my topic matches with the course theme "Confronting Oppression."
