PRIMARY RESEARCH METHOD
SURVEY
We chose a Google Forms survey as our primary research method for its accessibility, ease of use, and ability to collect both quantitative and qualitative feedback. It allowed us to efficiently gather input from a diverse group of playtesters, providing structured data on gameplay mechanics, user engagement, and improvement areas. This method ensures we obtain actionable insights to refine the game based on real player experiences.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
1. Organizing The Playtest Sessions
We arranged dedicated group playtesting sessions where participants could engage with Celebrity Warefare in a controlled environment.
Playtesting was conducted with Taylor's University students, within the age groups of under 18 and 18–24 years old. This demographic was chosen as they align with the target audience for Celebrity Warfare and are likely familiar with the themes of pop culture and cancel culture that the game explores.
Each session involved multiple rounds of gameplay to allow players to fully understand the game mechanics, strategies, and interactions between cards.
2. Observing Gameplay Dynamics
During the sessions, we observed player interactions, noting any confusion, engagement levels, and potential issues with the rules or mechanics.
Facilitators were present to answer questions and note common pain points.
3. Feedback Survey Distribution
At the end of each session, participants were directed to complete a Google Forms survey.
The survey included both quantitative and qualitative sections, covering:
Overall enjoyment and engagement.
Clarity of the rules and mechanics.
Balance and fairness of the cards (e.g., attack vs. defense).
Suggestions for improvement.
4. Collecting Data
Responses were automatically collected through Google Forms, allowing for efficient compilation and analysis.
Observational notes from the sessions were used to supplement the survey results, providing context to the feedback.
5. Analyzing Feedback and Refining the Game
Insights from both the playtesting observations and survey results informed refinements to Celebrity Warfare. Adjustments were made to improve rule clarity, card balancing, and overall gameplay experience.
