On February 6, southern Turkey and northern Syria were shaken by two very strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.7 respectively. At the time of writing this text, the death toll exceeded 47,000, while more than 110,000 buildings had been destroyed or damaged beyond repair.
